在中国・外国人記者クラブ(FCCC)が1月31日、中国のおける報道の自由に関する年次報告2021年版「Locked Kicked down or out covering China」を発表した。それによると、中国では報道の自由を妨げるさまざまな措置が取られており、外国人記者は「前例のない障害」に直面しているとし、当局から法的措置をほのめかされ、インターネット上では脅迫の標的にされ、国外追放で人員不足に追い込まれる例も出ている、としている。
Tibet Action Institute が昨年12月に出した報告によると、約80万人のチベット人の学生、生徒が家族から強制的に引き離され、国営の寄宿学校に入学させられた。これは、チベットの人々の文化と言語を一掃することを目的とする当局の活動の一環だ。中央集権化された寄宿学校の広大なネットワークは、チベットの子供たちを操作し、教化するために、当局によってて効果的に使われている。学校では、チベット人の学生、生徒が集中的に政治的教化を受け、中国語を勉強せざるを得ず、宗教や文化を実践することを禁じられている。
調査結果をもとに International Institute for Religious Freedom (IRF)が分析したところでは、昨年、3億6000万人以上(世界の7人に1人)のキリスト教徒が自国で迫害を受け、前年比23.8%増の5898人が殺害され、13.8%増の5110の教会が襲われ、あるいは閉鎖に追い込まれた。さらに法的手続きなしで逮捕されたキリスト教徒は6175人と前年より44.3%も増加、誘拐された人は前年の2.2倍、3829人に上っている。
