(2017．8.6 バチカン放送）8月6日、主のご変容の祝日、気温が40度近くにもなったローマ・バチカン聖ペトロ広場にはこの暑さにも関わらず、教皇の言葉に耳を傾けその祝福を受けようと大勢の人々が集まった。
教皇フランシスコは聖母マリアへの祈りを唱える前に、主のご変容の出来事の意味を解説するとともに、天の御国の神秘に心を上げるよう促された。
「親愛なる兄弟姉妹の皆さん、今日は教会の典礼暦に従って主のご変容の祝日が記念されます。主のご変容の神秘は、私たちに希望のメッセージを送ってくれます。兄弟たちに奉仕するためにキリストに出会うよう招いています。
今日のミサ中の福音朗読はイエスがペトロとヤコブ、そしてヨハネを伴ってタボル山に登り、彼らの目の前で変容され神の子としての栄光を垣間見せたことを物語っています。
聖書は彼らが高い山に登って行ったと記しています。このことは私たちが高いところ天に向かうには、低いところから、この世の雑事から離れることが必要だと教えてくれます。神のみ言葉に耳を傾けるために祈りの中に心を静めることが肝要なのです。沈黙と静けさの中に神のみ言葉、福音に耳を傾けるなら、そこに素晴らしい輝きと喜び美しさを見出すことができるでしょう。
夏休みはただ身体を休めるためだけでなく主との出会いを実現するためまたとない良い機会でもあります。この時期、多くの学生たちは授業がなく、また多くの家族も休暇に出かけます。ただ休むだけではなく日常の雑事から離れて霊的な歩みを深める機会にいたしましょう。
主との出会いには終わりがありません。常にますます生き生きしたものとなります。主のご変容を目の当たりにした三人の弟子たちは主との出会いによって変容させられた全く新しい目と心をもって山を下りて行きました。これはわたしたちもまた同じようにすべきことを教えています。神の霊に強められ、心から回心し神ご自身が望んでおられるように毎日人々への奉仕、愛徳の実践によってキリスト者としての証を世に示すのです。
こうしてキリストご自身とそのみ言葉の熱意に変容させられて私たち自身もすべての兄弟たち,特に苦しむ人々、孤独の中にある人々、見捨てられている人々、病人たち、世界の多くの国々で不正や暴力，圧政に打ちのめされている人々に、神の愛とあわれみの具体的な印となることができるでしょう。
聖母マリアにすべての人々の休暇を託しましょう。皆が休暇から多くの益をくみ取ることができるように、また様々な理由で休暇に行かれない人々も何らかの形でこの時期に少しでも休みと慰めを受けることができるよう、その母としての助けを願いたいと思います」。

Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!
On this Sunday, the liturgy celebrates the feast of the Lord’s Transfiguration. Today’s evangelical page states that the apostles Peter, James and John witnessed this extraordinary event. Jesus took them with them “and led them away on a high mountain” ( Mt17.1) and, while praying, his face changed in appearance, shining like the sun, and his clothes became white as light . Then Moses and Elijah came and entered into dialogue with Him. At this point, Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here! If you will, I will make here three huts, one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah “(v. 4). He had not yet finished talking, when a bright cloud wound them.
The Lord’s Transfiguration event offers us a message of hope – so we will be with Him – he invites us to meet Jesus to serve the brothers .
The ascension of the disciples to Mount Tabor prompts us to reflect on the importance of detaching ourselves from worldly things, to make a way up and to contemplate Jesus. This is to give us the attentive and prayerful listening of Christ, the beloved Son Of the Father, searching for moments of prayer that allow the docile and joyful reception of the Word of God. In this spiritual ascension, in this detachment from worldly things, we are called upon to rediscover the peaceful and regenerating silence of the Gospel meditation, the reading of the Bible , Leading to a destination full of beauty, splendor and joy. And when we do so, with the Bible in hand, in silence, we begin to feel this inner beauty, this joy that generates the Word of God in us. At the end of the admirable experience of the Transfiguration, the disciples came down from the mountain (see 9) with eyes and hearts transfigured by the encounter with the Lord.
